Decentralized digital identity (QuarkID)
From 1 October 2024 every active user of miBA, the City of Buenos Aires's services app, was given a decentralized digital identity through QuarkID, the city's own open-source identity protocol. Identities are anchored on ZKsync Era, an Ethereum layer 2, and residents can share credentials such as birth certificates using zero-knowledge proofs, without handing over the underlying data. The city counted 3.6 million residents at launch.
