ETH trading and custody for its retail and private banking clients
BBVA opened bitcoin and ETH trading and custody to all its adult retail customers in Spain on 4 July 2025, in its mobile app, after notifying the CNMV under MiCA and rolling the service out over the weeks before. BBVA said in March 2025 that it would hold the cryptographic keys on its own custody platform rather than with a third party, and The Block reported in September 2025 that the platform uses Ripple's custody technology. Spain is the service's third market, after Switzerland and Turkey, and BBVA Switzerland added ETH to its custody and trading service for private banking clients on 13 December 2021. Its Turkish service, Garanti BBVA Kripto, is its own row. This is custody of ETH itself, not tokenization.
